In order to present cultural activities in public spaces of Puerto Escondido, the youth orchestra Talento Costeño is holding a musical show in Rinconada on Saturday.
Called Calenda Rinconada, the show will also be a fundraiser, as the group plans to collect funds to purchase instruments and accessories for more than 40 students.
The calenda will start at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10 across from El Rincón de los Almendros restaurant, traveling along Blvd. Benito Juárez and concluding at the roundabout across from the Rotary Club.
The group’s musical director, Miguel Lucio Pérez Reyes, explained that along the way, the group plans to perform folkloric tunes for about two hours, al leading up to a regional folkloric dance show by a group from the Casa de Cultura.
“We work as a team with the goal of promoting our music, giving life to public spaces and with the purpose of obtaining musical instruments such as a tuba; it is a very expensive instrument, the cheapest ones are over 100,000 pesos [US $5,000]; our goal is to raise that sum with this calenda and through different activities that we will be carrying out as a cultural project,” commented Pérez.
This event is made possible with the support of Rinconada business owners, parents of the 22 band members and the Agencia Municipal. The Talento Costeño project’s goal is to create “healthy spaces” in the community, letting the youths of the band express themselves musically while they “promote the music of the Coast as a cultural identity.
