Two men allegedly belonging to a gang of motorcycle thieves were apprehended by state authorities in Puerto Escondido last week.
Agents from the state investigation agency were conducting a routine patrol on Wednesday, part of efforts intended to curb vehicle theft, when they saw a couple of men acting suspiciously at the corner of Calle 2da Poniente and 3ra Norte. Upon seeing the patrol vehicle, the men attempted to flee but were placed under arrest.
The two men were in possession of two scooters, one of which authorities later determined had been reported stolen by its owner.
The suspects later admitted that the two vehicles had been stolen, one from Fraccionamiento Los Mangos in 2017 and the other from Zicatela.
The alleged criminals, Jhonn Alberth, a.k.a. El Yoni, 30, and Sinue, 36, residents of sector Reforma, also admitted that they stole other motorcycles and scooters, which they had sold in Nopala, Bajos de Chila, and San Pedro Mixtepec.
