Tututepec students learn composting

In an attempt to promote care for the environment among young people in Villa de Tututepec, the municipal government has launched a number of ecological programs in local schools.

Training by staff from the municipal ecology office began in those schools that had shown interest in learning how to build and maintain a composting system to produce organic fertilizer for their gardens and trees.

The same staff also set up a workshop in which attendees can learn how to reuse worn tires and build armchairs with them, reducing pollution in Tutupec, as well as what can potentially become breeding grounds for mosquitoes during the rainy season.

The first school to participate in these programs was the Telebachillerato, or distance learning preparatory school, in the town of La Luz Tututepec.

This was also the first school to sign up to the Young Environmental Promoters of Villa de Tututepec program created by the municipality, located about two hours west of Puerto Escondido.
