The maiden VivaAerobus flight between Puerto Escondido and Monterrey, Nuevo León, was received “with great enthusiasm,” the state Minister of Tourism said Wednesday.
This first flight inaugurated the new regular, non-stop route between the two cities, flying three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Tourism Minister Saymi Pineda said the opening of the route marks a milestone in the connectivity of Oaxaca, allowing the state to be more accessible than ever.
“It is with great satisfaction that we share the exceptional growth that Puerto Escondido has experienced in the movement of air passengers since the pandemic,” she said.
Pineda remarked that during the first quarter of 2023, passenger numbers were up 130% compared to the same period in 2019.
Construction of a new terminal building at the Puerto Escondido airport will allow for an even greater increase in traffic.
The minister said the investment will allow Puerto Escondido to efficiently serve traffic of approximately 3 million passengers per year, ensuring a pleasant and comfortable experience for all visitors.
The state tourism industry reported just under 6.7 billion pesos (US $393 million) in tourism revenue between January and April, 11.8% of which corresponded to Puerto Escondido’s 326,000 visitors.
First announced in May, the new Puerto-Monterrey flight can be booked online, at Viva Stores, on the Viva App or by calling toll-free 0181 8215 0150.
