A German tourist was rescued and a suspect arrested during a security operation in Santa Maria Colotepec.
The woman was freed Sept. 20 in Colonia Paraíso de Colotepec after being kidnapped at a construction site Sept. 8 in the Linda Vista subdivision in the same municipality. The woman was unharmed during her ordeal.
The kidnappers had contacted the victims’ relatives and demanded a ransom of 1 million pesos, or US $50,000.
A man identified only as Silverio R.S. is in custody in connection with the crime.
The incident earned national scrutiny when it was reported during President López Obrador’s daily press conference.
