State officials said Friday they have arrested a suspect in the murder of Victor Masson, a Canadian visitor slain earlier this month in Puerto Escondido.
The attorney general’s office identified the man only as M.O.S.L.
“Solid lines of investigation were established for which the arrest warrant was granted,” the prosecutor’s office explained, leading to the apprehension of the suspect in the streets of Puerto Escondido earlier this week. The man will remain in preventive custody until a judge determines his legal situation.
During a press conference, the state security cabinet confirmed that Masson, 27, was a tourist who was traveling in Mexico with his girlfriend, a Mexican citizen. Both arrived on the Oaxaca coast on Sunday, May 14, the date on which authorities presume he was murdered.
Masson was found on May 15 inside a vehicle parked on Calle Mar del Norte, in Colonia Arroyo Seco, San Pedro Mixtepec.
Last week, at least four people, two men and two women, were identified and investigated for the murder, Oaxaca Attorney General Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla reported.
