The Festival del Puerto film show returns to Bacocho Beach for its eighth edition with four days of events starting on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The show has made a name for itself for its showcase of independent contemporary Mexican films. This year the schedule is running under the title Nuevas Olas, or new waves, and includes five movies that will be screened at sunset at the Villa Sol Beach Club in Bacocho.

The festival opens on Wednesday with Los Reyes del Mundo, a co-production of several countries, including Mexico and Colombia. The film won the Golden Shell for Best Film at the San Sebastián Festival in Spain this year, explained event director Nino Cozzi.

He added that the festival will also kick off with an opening concert by Sarmen Almond and Sesión Libre Trío.

Thursday is a double feature day with Teorema del Tiempo and its director, Andrés Kayser, followed by the screening of Malitzin 17, by Eugenio and Mara Polgovsky.

Anabel Cazo’s Trigal will be screened on Friday and Adriana Santelucce’s El Reino de Dios will close the film screenings under the stars.

All screenings start at 7 pm

The New Waves section of the festival will be complemented by sister event Puerto Sonoro, two sessions of sound meditations to be held at Casa Joseph in Zicatela Thursday and Friday at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.

For the closing party, the venue moves to La Punta de Zicatela, with live music by the free jazz group Los Bien Raros and DJ sets by Ultramarino and Silente Sent.
