The Las Leyendas tennis tournament, which celebrated Puerto Escondido’s first tennis players, concluded three days of matches at Lemon Park on Sunday.
Organized by the Amigos por el Tenis de Puerto Escondido, the tourney gave away 102,000 pesos (US $5,200) in cash prizes and medals in four female and four male categories.
The goal of the organizers was to pay homage to the early tennis players, whose efforts left a legacy among local young athletes.
Amigos por el Tenis president Edwin Morales was joined during the awards ceremony by the mayor of San Pedro Mixtepec, Javier Cruz Jiménez, along with other local authorities, entrepreneurs, athletes and fans.
First place winners were, in women’s categories, Fernanda Velasco, category D; Adriana Escudero, cat. C; and Taisia Bolsova, cat. A.
Men’s categories D, B, and A were swept by Nicolás Bermúdez, Matías Cruz, and Iván Endara, respectively.
