Puerto Escondido fishermen hook a big black marlin

A couple of friends from Puerto Escondido went fishing off the coast of Jalisco recently, and what was a leisurely trip soon landed them a huge catch.

Porteños Gustavo Mendoza and Óscar Ochoa set out from Puerto Vallarta with two other friends, Luis and Christian, on a four-day trip during which they planned to hang out and maybe do some fishing, expecting to catch dorado and tuna.

The anglers followed a route that took them to the Islas Marías, and on the third day of their expedition, the catch of their lives hit one of their lines.

It took the joint efforts of the four friends and close to four hours to tire the fish, in a game of push and pull, until finally their prize catch revealed itself: a 250-kilogram black marlin.

Invigorated by their luckiest catch so far, the four fishermen have set their sights on a new goal, the Puerto Escondido International Sailfish Fishing Tournament, scheduled to take place from Nov. 25 to 27.
