Governor Salomón Jara was in Puerto Escondido on Thursday where he stressed that the conclusion of the Puerto Escondido-Oaxaca highway and the renovation of the Puerto Escondido airport — bringing international flights from South America and the U.S. — will be an economic boost for Oaxaca.
Jara spoke during the broadcast of his itinerant TV show Jueves de Gozona, which this week was shot in Puerto Escondido.
Governor Jara said that the tourist development of the Coast region is essential to achieve the economic and tourist growth of the state. He explained that the promotion of the state’s “high quality” tourist destinations is being redoubled, and that the highway and the airport are essential to meet this goal.
Construction of the highway is currently halted due to a land dispute between Villa Sola de Vega and San Vicente Coatlán.
Last Wednesday, said Jara, he attended an assembly with more than 1,500 Coatlán community members, asking for their help in achieving the completion of the highway in five or six months.
As for the airport, he said, “We want there to be international flights from South America and the United States, because Puerto Escondido and Zicatela are top destinations. The world has its eyes on this area, and when we have the highway and the airport we are going to have development, and for that we need territorial order and services like drinking water, electric power, landfills,” he said.
