Puerto Escondido’s lifeguards have started pre-season training, inviting all interested volunteers to join up and prepare themselves to save lives.
A major vacation period in Puerto starts on Dec. 16, and the lifeguard corps, part of the Puerto Escondido Fire Department, plans to be ready.
On their official Facebook page, the lifeguards called on anyone aged 18 or more, although minors can join too, but they must present a parental consent form to do so.
The meeting point for the start of the training was the lifeguard tower at Zicatela Beach on Thursday morning.
At least 23 volunteers and lifeguards, three of them women, started 10 days of two-hour sessions that include physical conditioning, rescues, and first aid.
