Puerto Escondido was host to a successful third edition of the Bodyboard Colorada Pro tournament, which concluded on Sunday with the participation of 140 bodyboarders from at least 10 countries.
The surfers’ feats in several categories were witnessed by hundreds of national and foreign tourists who gathered on the shores of Playa Punta Colorada, a beach threatened by real estate development and lagging environmental regulations, and protected by the bodyboarder community itself, among other activist groups.
The Open Pro category, the top billing event, was won by Samy Morrentino from Hawaii, who was crowned the overall winner of the Colorada Pro tournament by obtaining a score of 18.67 and 120,000 pesos (about US $7,100) in prize money.

The winner of the Dropknee category was Hawaiian Kawika Roger-Kamai, who performed the best maneuvers atop his board and obtained 13.9 overall points and a cash prize of 20,000 pesos. In women’s, Verónica Correa from Panama earned the same prize for her first place, with a score of 16.6.
Mexican surfer Amurabi Silva Ziga obtained first place in the Amateur category.
The Colorada Pro 2023 tournament, part of the Association of Bodyboard Professionals World Tour, gave out a total of 310,000 pesos (US $18,300) in prize money during the three days of competition.
