Easter tourism expected to be 5% over last year

The state government has released its tourism estimates for the upcoming spring vacations, forecasting a 5% increase over 2022.

In terms of revenue, the state is expected to earn 865 million pesos (US $46.5 million) during the Easter holiday period April 3 to 16.

Projections by the Oaxaca tourism ministry indicate that an average 66% hotel occupancy rate could be reached in the three main destinations in the state, Puerto Escondido, Huatulco and the city of Oaxaca.

In terms of numbers of visitors, this means an average of 217,559 tourists are expected to travel to those destinations during the two-week-long holiday, an increase of 5% over last year.

The week of April 3 to 9 is expected to be the busiest, as occupancy rates are estimated to reach 70%, with the arrival of 109,304 tourists and revenue of 452 million pesos, 4% more than last year.

Broken down by destination, Puerto Escondido is expected to report occupancy rates close to 65%, 28,887 visitors and revenue of around 79 million pesos from April 3 to 9.

in Huatulco, occupancy could rise to 86% with the arrival of 27,183 tourists and an expected income of 219 million pesos.

In Oaxaca city, hotel occupancy projections reach 61% with the arrival of 53,253 tourists, who are expected to leave behind 154 million pesos.

From April 10 to 16, occupancy rates in the three destinations are estimated to be 62% on average, receiving 108,235 tourists and revenue of 413 million pesos, representing an increase of 1% when compered to the same week in 2022.
