A successful first ever drop knee surfing tournament took place at Zicatela Beach last weekend.
The DK Warriors 2022 tournament was created to promote bodyboarding in all its modalities in Puerto Escondido, and attracted 36 surfers from around Mexico and the world.
The best in the competition were divided into two main categories, Open and Amateur, and winners took home 3,000 and 7,000-peso (US $155 to $360) prizes home, respectively.
Iván Gallardo from Acapulco was crowned in the Open category, followed by Porteño Eder Madrid and Kawika Ortega from Hawaii.
The Amateur category was snatched by local Juan de Dios, who shared the podium with Alfonso, from Mazunte, and Luis Eduardo Cruz, also from Puerto Escondido.
The prize for Best Wave was won by Eder Madrid.
The Champion of Social Media will win a 1,000-peso prize, and is to be determined by the highest number of likes earned on each of the riders’ pictures posted on the tournament’s official Instagram page.
