Residents of Colonia Aeropuerto have denounced a sewage spill in their neighborhood that they say has been ongoing for some time.
Residents and business owners located near Calle Allende and state highway 131 have expressed their annoyance over foul odors in this area of Puerto Escondido.
They claim that wastewater some neighbors’ homes has been running down the street, forming a green colored pond that is giving off pestilent odors.
One of the neighbors told the newspaper Estado Actual that residents opt to walk on other streets to avoid being splashed with the contaminated water as vehicles drive through it.
The people of Colonia Aeropuerto are calling upon the local authorities and the residents who dispose of their wastewater into the street to put a stop to the situation, as it gives highway 131 – one of the entry points to Puerto Escondido from Oaxaca city – a bad image.
There is a similar case at the main crossroads of Puerto Escondido, on Oaxaca Avenue, where citizens have complained of foul odors caused by residents who discharge wastewater into the storm drains.
