The Chacahua Lagoons region is preparing to receive visitors Saturday with events that will include sports activities, cultural shows and gastronomic exhibitions.
The municipality of Villa de Tututepec will host Chacahua Fest 2022 with a day of music and celebration.
In a press conference held Thursday at Lagunas de Chacahua, Mayor Jesuhandy Conde Gómez highlighted the activities being planned.
Visitors can also enjoy the natural beauty of the greater Chacahua region, some two hours west of Puerto Escondido, including not only the beaches but its lagoon system and several waterfalls.
Municipal authorities stressed that all activities take into consideration the protection of the lagoon system and the surrounding 14,000-hectare national park.
Chacahua Fest 2022 will also host an Afro-Mexican peoples encounter, expected to receive representatives from over 17 different towns from the Coast regions of Oaxaca and Guerrero.
The day will close with a free concert held in the evening, with Mexico-Dominican group Merenglass and Mexico-Colombian group La Sonora Dinamita playing merengue, cumbia and salsa tunes.
Conde stated that Chacahua Fest is the result of the Tututepec municipal council’s efforts, as it fully funded the event with the goal of reactivating the local economy, which has been in dire straits after two years of the Covid 19 pandemic.
The mayor said that local hoteliers reported an estimated occupancy rate for this weekend of just over 95%, based on reservations.
Those visitors looking for a more rustic lodging experience will be able to find parking for their mobile homes and areas prepared as camping grounds.
In terms of security, Conde pointed out that the state police, the navy and the municipal police will coordinate their efforts, while local Civil Protection staff will set up information and security booths.
