The donation campaign organized by the non-governmental organizations Sembrando Buenas Semillas and Helping Hands has met its first goal, delivering food and care packages to local families in need.
In an update posted on the fundraiser’s Facebook page, the organizers announced that they had visited more than 60 families, taking them food as well as hygiene products, warm clothes, notebooks and toys.
Sembrando Buenas Semillas thanked all those who have supported the drive by volunteering, with monetary donations or in-kind, including, food, clothes and toys.
The NGOs reaffirmed their goal of reaching a total of 200 families in Puerto Escondido and towns in the mountainous areas outside the city.
The organizers estimate that 200,000 pesos (about US $10,200) is needed to deliver Christmas packages to the 200 families, containing a dinner for four, holiday gifts for children, dry food staples and a hygiene package, among other items.
So far, the organizations have raised 14,550 pesos online, although cash donations are being received at a collection center in Calle Vicente Suárez, Colonia Lázaro Cárdenas, where they are also gathering in-kind donations.
The organizations’ phone lines, 954 120 2370 and 954 100 8452, continue to be available to provide more information to those interested.
