One of the last events of the Fiestas de Noviembre was the by now traditional Surf and Bodyboard Tournament, which took place Monday and Tuesday at Zicatela Beach.
Close to 50 surfers competed in both categories, representing Puerto Escondido, Mexico at large, Argentina, the United States and Brazil.
Event coordinator Roxel Pérez told the newspaper Estado Actual that this tournament was held with the participation of 24 competitors in the bodyboard category and 23 in surfing.
She added that despite putting together the tournament with very little time in advance, Puerto is a renowned surf destination around the world, which was enough to contact and attract an important number of participants.
Pérez said the event was graced with excellent waves of up to two meters high and the festive atmosphere of Zicatela Beach during the two days of competitions.
Finals were held on Tuesday, with local Jhony Corzo wining first place in the surf open division of the event. He took home a cash prize of 25,000 pesos (US $1,300).
Sasha Donnano came in second and won 15,000 pesos, while Gabriel López was third, earning 10,000 pesos.
In the bodyboard open category, Jesús Santos came in first, followed by Amurabi Silva and Carlos Gabriel. The three best performers in this category earned the same cash prizes as their surf counterparts.
